- The Mustek ScanExpress 12000SP (at least with firmware 1.01) has a bug in the firmware
- that makes the backtracking fail if the scanning width is less than 170mm
- (the backtracking rarely occurs when the resolution is set below 600DPi)
-
- please note that if you have the memory set the buffer as high as possible
- I have mine set to 100MByte. then if you need to scan something big at 1200 DPi
- change the buffer to 64 Kbytes and put both the temp and destination picture to hdisk.
-
- if you have a IDE harddrive and put the temp buffer there you should try to ALWAYS have the
- temp buffer as low as possible (meaning 64 Kbytes) if you get no errors when backtracking occurs keep it
- that way otherwise do as I said above.
-
- The reason for why I think this might work is because of mustek's scsi-implementation which seem's to dislike
- any other traffic on the scsi bus while it is scanning.
-
- if you want to scan something in that has a width less than 170mm do this to minimize
- the amount of memory required at dpi's 600 and up.
-
- If you hanve only a pure scsi system.
- (meaning both scanner and harddrive on the same scsi-bus)
-
- 1) put the temp file on harddisk
- 2) put the temp buffer size in betascan to something low like 64 kbytes
- 3) put the destination file also on the harddisk
- 4) increase the frame to 170mm (or full width)
- 4b) scan it
- 5) load the resulting image into a image processor
- (preferably one that has virtual memory I think that leaves only Art Effect or ImageFX)
- 6) Crop the image in the image processor
- 6b) use ICS on the resulting image (if you like).
-
- I'll look into some workarounds for the problem but it might not be something that is possible
- so...
-
- The bugs in scanexpress 12000SP might have to do with scsi and therefore can't be worked around that
- easily... but one can minimize the damage.
